| As she is someone that aspires to one day play college basketball, Whitney
has a very regimented training program. There are three major components
to her program. The first is her off season plyometrics based program
through Evolution Sports Training
in Charlotte, using the
Frappier Acceleration Program. This intense program
combines agility, jumping, quickness type exercises, weightlifting and
speed running on a specialized treadmill at various degrees of
inclination. This twelve session program challenges Whitney to the fullest
each and every time. The second part of her training consists of her work at the YMCA .Whitney and best friend Tiffany Blackmon usually train together, which helps to encourage each of the other. Here, she completes a combination of weightlifting and running. The weightlifting is centered on both upper and lower body strength, including the development of the hip flexor muscles. The running part of this workout consists of "12's" on the treadmill. This basically means running twelve minutes consecutively at increasing speeds every two minutes.(6.5-9.0 miles per hour) After a five minute break, the two of them run for a minute, then rest for a minute, until they have run another twelve minutes. This helps in increasing their recovery time. The third part of Whitney's training is her actual on the court time. This workout varies from forty-five minutes to two hours, depending on what we are trying to accomplish and what we have already done. An average workout lasts ninety minutes, with Whitney getting up approximately 450 shots and a minimum of 50 free throws. This is in addition to the ball handling and passing drills. Clearly, Whitney is not where she wants or needs to be, in order to play college basketball. However, she vows to not be out worked.
