Whitney began her high school career in November of 2003 at Forestview High School in Gastonia, North Carolina. Forestview had a tradition of winning in girls basketball and Whit had hoped to continue that tradition upon entering high school. However, that season was a struggle with the team finishing 9-16. After going 20-3 through her two years of middle school, including winning the County Championship in 2003, this season was one of frustration. The Jaguars turned things around a bit the following season, going 17-10 and making the state playoffs. Despite a first round exit, the team felt like they would have an even better season Whitney's junior year. However, it wasn't meant to be. The Jags suffered through injuries early in the season and lost some games they shouldn't have. This resulted in a 14-12 overall record. The Jags regular season record tied them with Enka High school for a state playoff berth, which was determined by a coin toss. The Jags loss the toss in a three-way phone call. This brings us to Whit's final year of high school. She clearly has not enjoyed the success at Forestview that she did on the AAU level. This is no doubt, something she would like to change. The outlook for this year's team can go either way. The Jags are talented enough to win alot of games and challenge for the conference title. Although Whitney has enjoyed success at the personal level, being named to the Big South All-Conference Team three times and team Most Valuable Player twice, winning is what is paramount to Whit. Having played on three state AAU championship teams and finishing 9th at the AAU nationals twice, with two different teams, team success is the norm for Whit. Her former coach with the Winston-Salem Stealers taught her something she still plays by today, "Play to win the game first, and everything else will take care of itself." Whit prides herself on doing that and rarely knows her stats (except turnovers) for any particular game. We publish the stats here on the site for family and friends that are unable to see Whit play, and for the many college coaches that visit this site.
